Actual Case Study – Liquor Stores
From the previous ten liquor store statement analyses we performed, we saved each merchant an average of $100 per month. In our analysis, the merchants had a low signature debit rate but were not set up for PIN Debit. We also found cases in which the merchants were set up for PIN Debit but did not have a signature debit rate, only a flat credit card rate. By offering both, there were significant savings for the merchant. By evaluating our existing merchants we found that thirty percent (30%) of their customers could have made their purchase by entering their PIN Debit code. Instead, they elected to sign for the purchase. Their previous merchant provider did not offer this analysis.

Actual Case Study – Mail Order / Ecommerce
Here at Applied Card Systems we always have our Customer’s best interest in mind. In reviewing some potential Customer’s statements we noticed that the majority of their sales were being charged a higher rate (sometimes called “Downgrading”). We also found that they had a couple chargebacks on their statements. By talking with the merchants, we discovered that they were not performing an address verification when processing their sales. Upon switching their services to us, they not only qualified better by fifty (50) basis points but also saw a reduction in their chargebacks because they were validating their customer’s shipping address as well. Over the past year, we have seen an increase in use of credit cards that are tied to Reward programs (i.e., airline miles, cash back, etc). These cards process at a higher rate to cover the cost of these programs. Therefore, instead of qualifying these sales as Mid Qualified or Non Qualified items, we created a unique qualified bucket just for these types of cards that offer our merchants tremendous savings. |
